Korea, Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi-do and Seoul-si

Uijeongbu-si is one of the administrative districts of South Korea. Korea's regional administrative units can be briefly understood as having two levels.

Large regions are classified using 'si' and 'do[d]', such as Seoul-si, Gyeonggi-do, and Chungcheong-do. It's not an English word. The corresponding Korean word is expressed in English as it sounds. This is one layer. Within these ‘si’ and ‘do’ regions, regions are divided into smaller units. In this case, 'si', 'gun', and 'gu' are added next to the region name. Since 'si' overlaps, even Koreans get confused unless they study it.

Based on this, the relationship between Uijeongbu-si, Gyeonggi-do and Seoul-si is as follows.

Seoul-si and Gyeonggi-do can be said to be at the same level in terms of administrative districts. Uijeongbu-si, part of Gyeonggi-do, is a sub-administrative district of Gyeonggi-do.

Uijeongbu-si and Seoul-si are adjacent, and you can travel from Uijeongbu-si to Seoul-si in 20 minutes by car or up to 1 hour by public transportation.
